Instead of following a specific diet, take the best habits to build your own optimal way of eating
YOU THERE! ON THE LATEST DIET OR FAD YOU SAW ONLINE BEING PROMOTED BY THE FITSPO INFLUENCERS.
STOP RIGHT NOW!
I get it, I really do. You really want to lose weight or achieve your goal and you are desperate to do it. It’s all you think about, you’ve done it before, and you just need to go a little bit harder this time. Maybe your friend has had so much success doing it that it’s surely got to work for you to or the Instagram influencer just makes it look so easy during that 45s video you saw which represents 0.0008% of their day (re read that and read it again).
Too often we hear people saying they are about to start x diet with no real context or understanding of the how or why behind it. Then they “fall off the wagon” and move onto the next thing or promise themselves they’ll do it better next time (usually next Monday because that’s when diets start right?)
All of these diets are different methods that you can use to achieve a goal or possibly improve your health. But many if not all of these diets are unsustainable all day, every day forever.
INSTEAD OF STARTING A NEW DIET, START BUILDING HABITS INSTEAD
Let’s take a look at each of the above diets and break them down into one sustainable habit you can develop or add to your existing routine/lifestyle.
INSTEAD OF: PALEO
Eat more Whole Foods and reduce the amount of foods with added sugars.
INSTEAD OF: KETO
Reduce processed carbohydrates and make selective food choices that are conducive to your goals.
INSTEAD OF: ZONE
Incorporate a protein, fat and carb at every meal to keep blood sugars balanced and satiety in check.
INSTEAD OF: INTERMITTENT FASTING
Reduce your overall calorie intake if weight loss is your goal.
INSTEAD OF: MACRO/CALORIE COUNTING
Being more mindful with your food choices and understand the content of the foods you are consuming.
INSTEAD OF: CARNIVORE
Make sure you are eating adequate protein.
INSTEAD OF: PLANT BASED
Increase your fruits and vegetable consumption for more optimal nutrient intakes and adequate fibre.
Your way of eating does not have to be complicated and does not require dramatic changes. Instead of focusing on a diet, start focusing on the habits and gold nuggets of information and tips that lie within those diets and figure out what works and more importantly is sustainable for you.
